Hi, I am Paul. My love affair with the great outdoors started as a boy. I grew up in a small three room apartment without a yard but there was a 400 acre park across the street mostly wooded where I felt an overwhelming freedom just being there.
My Dad was an avid hunter and when I was 9 years old he took me to my first hunting expedition. As we were walking through the woods we found a deer antler on the ground and he told me how deer grow and loose their antlers every year. I was amazed by this fact, he also said that knife handles and other things could be made out of them. Wasn’t long before I started cutting and carving antlers into buttons and other simple projects.
Needless to say, I have been looking on the ground for more ever since!
I became interested in black powder firearms during the late 60’s but at that time black powder was a controlled substance and local fire departments prohibited owning them without special permits.
In 1976 the US celebrated its 200th birthday and since so much money could be made reenacting the Revolutionary War, the ban on black powder was lifted. Soon the states were opening special muzzleloading hunting seasons and it was then that I bought my first black powder rifle.
I didn’t even know how to load it! There weren’t any books on the subject either, except at the library. The good old times! After some experimenting I learned how to use this rifle which to my benefit it shot great. I started making round balls from lead, powder measures and loading blocks from deer antlers!!
As time went by and my passion grew for this art I started to create a diversity of objects with different uses. Page through my gallery and I’ll let you be the judge.
